Claron “Clark” R. Alcantara, 44, of Namnama Village, San Fernando City, La Union, is now Agriculture Undersecretary and concurrent Chief of Staff to Secretary Proceso J. Alcala.
President Benigno Simeon Aquino III himself sworn in Alcantara along with Alcala and five other Agriculture officials in rites held at Malacanang just recently.
The Department of Agriculture said the five others inducted were Dr. Segfredo Serrano, Undersecretary for Policy, Planning, Research and Regulation; Joel Rudinas, Undersecretary for Field Operations; Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Undersecretary for Special Concerns; Antonio Fieta, Undersecretary for Administration and Finance; and Leandro Gazmin, Director for Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Service.
A former member of the Presidential Management Staff, Alcantara brings to his new office his expertise in Development Management, a masteral degree he obtained in 1997 as a government scholar. In 1987 he finished A.B. Economics at the University of the Philippines in Diliman, Quezon City.
Clark, as he is fondly known to kin and friends, is a son of the late Pelagio Alcantara, Region I director of the Philippine Information Agency in 1993-1995, and retired state university professor Crescencia Robianes-Alcantara.
