6.6 Million Worth of Marijuana Plants Destroyed

The stepped-up efforts of the Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Regional Office 1 (PDEA-RO1) to locate and destroy marijuana plantations across the region scored after the destruction of P6,640,500.00 million worth of marijuana plants in various plantation sites in Barangay Licungan, Sugpon, Ilocos Sur during the two (2) days Marijuana eradication.

Police Chief Superintendent Roman A. Felix, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1), said the operatives from Ilocos Sur Police Provincial Office (ISPPO); Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency 1 (PDEA1), composite intelligence team of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Sugpon Police Station destroyed 24,770 fully grown marijuana plants, and 34,100 MJ seedlings planted in scattered plantation sites with an estimated land area of 4,285 square meters.

“Based on the standard value set by the Dangerous Drug Board (DDB), the uprooted MJ plants and seedlings to include the confiscated 30.5 kilograms dried MJ leaves had an estimated value of P6,640,500.00 million,” PCSupt. Felix added.

The uprooted MJ plants were burned at the plantation sites after documentation by the PDEA-RO1 personnel in the presence of barangay officials. Samples and pieces of evidence were brought to PDEA-RO1 in City of San Fernando, La Union for proper disposition.

PCSupt. Felix further stressed that series of intensified anti-illegal drugs operations will be implemented all over the region in cooperation with other anti-illegal drugs teams of other law enforcement agencies to ensure the reduction of supply and demand of illegal drugs especially marijuana.
