Driven by the desire to deliver government programs and services at the grassroots level, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration- Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA-RWO1) and the City of Dagupan in Pangasinanjoined hands and established the Barangay OFW Migrant Desk, the first in Region 1.
Relative to this, Dagupan City’s Barangay Captains and their respective OFW Migrant Desk Officers attended the Barangay Migrant Desk Officers Training and Seminar held at the City Museum, City Plaza, Dagupan City.
The seminar was attended by a total of 58 participants coming from 27 barangays in the city.
Ms. Rhoda Nilda Placida R. Lee, the Officer-In-Charge for the Programs and Services Divison and Mr. Khristian Paul M. Maglaya, the Family Welfare Officer of Pangasinan served as Resource Speakers during the seminar and gave an orientation on the Programs and Services of OWWA to the OFWs and their families. They likewise provided a lecture- discussion on the OWWA Community Organizing Framework and the OWWA OFW Help Desk.
Mr. Engracio C. Bailon, the head of Central Pangasinan Field Office of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) likewise discussed their programs for the OFW sector. He also conducted a seminar on Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons (AIR-TIP).
This endeavor aims to forge partnership between government agencies and the Local Government of Dagupan in responding to the issues and concerns of OFWs and their families at the barangay level. The creation of Barangay Migrant Desk would ensure the timely intervention to the needs of the OFW clienteleand would help in addressing their plight.
OWWA is in full support to of the Barangay OFW Migrant Desk as it facilitates the protection of the interests and promotion of the welfare of OFWs and their families through immediate and appropriate response to their requests for assistance.
