Felix Cesar C. Arobel, a scholarunder the OFW Dependent Scholarship Program (OFWDSP) of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA- RWO1) has successfully landed 3rd place in the Essay Writing Contest of the recently concluded Kusina Ilocandia held at the Coconut Grove Beach Resort, Paringao, Bauang, La Union
Felix was the sole representative of his school during the on-the-spot essay writing contest with the event’s theme “ Northern Culinary Adventure- A Continuing Journey Towards Ilocandia’s Culinary Expertise”. Felix received a cash prize and a certificate as third placer in the contest during the event’s closing ceremony.
Kusina Ilocandia is an annual event initiated by the La Union Hotels Resorts and Restaurant Association (LUHRRA) and the La Union Conventions and Visitors Bureau (LUCVB) together with the San Juan Beach Resorts Association (SJBRASS) and the Bauang Tourism Council (BTC). It is also being held in coordination with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Provincial Government of La Union. This project aims to promote the culinary tourism of Region I by showcasing Ilocandia’s special cuisine.
Felix, is a 2nd year student at Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University- Mid La Union Campus (DMMMSU- MLUC) and is currently taking up Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He is the second of the two (2) children of OFW Renaldo G. Arobel and Mrs. Luisa Marilou C. Arobel who both hails from Barangay San Blas, Bangar, La Union. OFW Renaldo is presently in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where he is working as a family driver since 2007.
As a qualified OFW Dependent, Felix applied for the OFWDSP and was chosen as one of the 48 scholars of OWWA for the school year 2013- 2014. Felix is very grateful to OWWA for the timely financial assistance given to him to augment his school expenses. “Thank you for the unconditional support and guidance given to us and for recognizing our simple achievements which motivates us to strive more for our goals in life”, Felix said.
Felix is also a part of the Official Student Publication of DMMMSU- MLUC, the MLUC Voice.
OFWDSP is an OWWA scholarship program that offers financial assistance to qualified dependents of OFWs who receive a monthly salary of not more than US$400.00 and who will enroll in any four-year or five-year baccalaureate course or associate course leading to a baccalaureate degree in a state college or university.
