The Region 1 police have heightened their focused police operations after the government troops encountered suspected members of the New People’s Army at Sitio Kin Lourdes, Barangay Namitpit, Quirino, Ilocos Sur on February 26, 2015 that killed five (5) and wounded six (6) personnel of the 81st Infantry Battalion, 7th ID of the Philippine Army.
Region 1 Police Director Chief Superintendent Roman A. Felix ordered Ilocos Sur Police and its nearby provincial police forces to include the Regional Public Safety Battalion 1 (RPSB1) to stage stiffer blocking forces and
intensify police operations in their area of responsibility (AOR) to capture the perpetrators responsible in the said atrocity.
Based on reports, the convoy of the 81st IB, 7th ID, PA; Regional Public Safety Battalion 1 (RPSB1); and Ilocos Sur Provincial Public Safety Company (ISPPSC) is moving to Cervantes, Ilocos Sur from Sitio Legleg, Quirino when the convoy was fired upon by members of the NPA.
PCSupt. Felix said, a continuous coordination with the AFP is being undertaken to monitor the alleged presence of the insurgents particularly those who were involved in the said encounter.
On February 19, 2015, alleged members of the NPA torched the equipment of the South Ocean Mining Corporation at Sitio Sinagaban, Patungcaleo, Quirino and on April 11, 2014, the drilling machine of the Freeport Mc-Moran Phelps Dodge Mining Company at Brgy. Patiacan, Quirino was also blazed by suspected members of the NPA. ###
