Ilocos Sur. For the first time the whole galaxy was brought to Candon City.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) held the Science and Technology week celebration and the S and T Caravan held the program in this city bringing the mobile Planetarium which the kids from different schools were so amazed and learned about planets, moons and suns.
The DOST Region 1 through the leadership of Director Armando Ganal spearheaded the program together with other sectors from universities/colleges, national agencies linked to DOST like the PAG-ASA and Philvocs, and other private sectors and companies.
DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Pena briefly graced the said occasion and Usec Brenda Nazareth Manzano was also present gracing the launching of Philippine Standard Time in Plaza Waya-waya. Congressman Eric Singson of 2nd District of Ilocos Sur also present in the occasion visiting the different booth exhibits inside the Candon Civic Centers and the techno-based bazaar along the San Juan Street.
Governor Ryan Singson attended the said occasion that he said there are many products that the provincial government can adopt especially that the bicentennial celebration and the Palarong Pambansa hosting of the province will be held next year. In Palaro alone more than 15,000 delegates are expected to flocked the province.
“Maraming magagandang produkto tulad ng souvenir laser sketching. Dapat kailangan ng produkto ay ma-show dahil yan ang unang bibilhin ng mga turista.” Governor said. He also noted the modernized agricultural equipment showcased in the exhibit.
Mayor Ericson Singson of Candon said when DOST informed them about the celebration to be held in the city he immediately accepted the program thinking the good thing it can give to the constituents especially to the students.
“Hope it will be held again next year.” He even said during his speech.
Ilocos Sur DOST director Ramon Sumabat was all praised to the city government of Candon and to Mayor Singson because of their full support to the said celebration.
The 4-day Science and Technology week celebration was held from October 3 to 6 in Candon City bringing different techno-based bazaar, exhibits of products from the province of Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan and La Union, the Planetarium, simulator for weather, among others.
Training and seminars were also held like the bagguong making, deboning fish like boneless bangus, ube processing for ube wine and ube jam, dragonfruit and many more. Other services offered during the the celebration are the Rxbox health care services, technology forum, science interactive exhibits, use of virtual and augmented reality tools for teaching and learning, S&T trivia, invest school, quiz bee among others.
