Ilocos Sur. For the first time the whole galaxy was brought to Candon City.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) held the Science and Technology week celebration and the S and T Caravan held the program in this city bringing the mobile Planetarium which the kids from different schools were so amazed and learned about planets, moons and suns.
The DOST Region 1 through the leadership of Director Armando Ganal spearheaded the program together with other sectors from universities/colleges, national agencies linked to DOST like the PAG-ASA and Philvocs, and other private sectors and companies.
DOST Secretary Fortunato Dela Pena briefly graced the said occasion and Usec Brenda Nazareth Manzano was also present gracing the launching of Philippine Standard Time in Plaza Waya-waya. Congressman Eric Singson of 2nd District of Ilocos Sur also present in the occasion visiting the different booth exhibits inside the Candon Civic Centers and the techno-based bazaar along the San Juan Street.
Bring on the leather hats, boots with spurs and the black chaleco vest and the favorite Rhinestone Cowboy song– the Rodeo Tournament is here… in Kannawidan Ylocos Festival. Governor Ryan Singson said this is already the 2nd Year of the tournament participated by the Universities and Colleges in the Luzon region. The participating universities compete in different games for men and women that includes bull whipping, wood chopping, load carrying, cattle wrestling, carambola, casting down, egg catching calf lassoing and of course, contest of the rodeo beautiful ladies.

Experience Ilocos Sur
The province hold it’s longest ever fiesta. Kannawidan is the festival of culture, tradition and heritage of the province. The 12-day festivities are compact to activities from January 29 to February 13. February 2 is the foundation day of Ilocos Sur since February 2, 1818.
Vigan City’s first festival celebration of the year is the Longganisa Festival. The city is also celebrating the Binatbatan Festival of the Arts, Semana Santa and the Raniag Festival.
Longganisa is a kind of sausage called Vigan Longganisa which is so famous around the world. The distinction of the sausage is its richness of garlic and the aroma that this sausage only has.
Vigan City has just been declared as one of the New 7 Wonder Cities of the World.
The Candon City Feria de Candon
The Candon City’s Feria de Candon is celebrating it’s 10th year. Showcasing the yearly Electrical Float Parade of 22 municipalities of 2nd District of Ilocos Sur including the special participation of Vigan City’s New Wonder City Float and Host Float of Candon City. This year’s celebration is as bright as the stars in the sky and kick-start for Christmas season.
The photo was taken during the Begnas Ylocos Festival of the province of Ilocos Sur. Showcasing the traditions and customary practice like the dancing tadek, singing salidummay, playing abistong and drumming the gongs as part of the one day program.
But before anything else, the visitors and the residents alike eat together in the breakfast served by the residents. And in here, you have to do the traditional way of eating: without the plate, fork and spoon. Yes, everyone ate with their hands and using the banana leaf sheath as the plate.

Begnas Festival is a yearly tribal festival of the province usually held during the months of October or November.
