Eating, The Traditional Way

banana eating

The photo was taken during the Begnas Ylocos Festival of the province of Ilocos Sur. Showcasing the traditions and customary practice like the dancing tadek, singing salidummay, playing abistong and drumming the gongs as part of the one day program.

But before anything else, the visitors and the residents alike eat together in the breakfast served by the residents. And in here, you have to do the traditional way of eating: without the plate, fork and spoon. Yes, everyone ate with their hands and using the banana leaf sheath as the plate.

And I mean everyone, as the picture above includes Governor Ryan Singson, Board Member Jaime Singson and Pablito Sanidad enjoy the meal in that moment.

Begnas Festival is a yearly tribal festival of the province usually held during the months of October or November.

There is a saying that says, eating with own hands makes the foods more delicious and tastier.###
