Stone Sculpture: The 5 Faces In Bahay Na Bato

Have you ever been to Bahay Na Bato in Luna, La Union. The silent coastal place where a resthouse is situated now a famous tourist destination in the region. Thanks to the initiative of Mr. Bong Kim, a Korean art disciple who turn the place into enchanting destination. I chanced Edwin Oraw, the stone sculptor, while doing another project in the area and had conversation with him.

The 5 Faces below which I photo in the area are just few of his stone sculpture.

2015 Longganisa Festival of Vigan City

viganVigan City’s first festival celebration of the year is the Longganisa Festival. The city is also celebrating the Binatbatan Festival of the Arts, Semana Santa and the Raniag Festival.

Longganisa is a kind of sausage called Vigan Longganisa which is so famous around the world. The distinction of the sausage is its richness of garlic and the aroma that this sausage only has.

Vigan City has just been declared as one of the New 7 Wonder Cities of the World.

The Legendary Pinsal Falls of Santa Maria

Pinsal Falls of Santa Maria is one of the tourist destination of Ilocandia. Families and barkadas are now heading to this remote nature’s beauty of Santa Maria town of Ilocos Sur. The place boost the amazing Pinsal Falls which is legendary because of the love story of Angalo and Aran in the Ilocano epic.Located in the pristine of not too much explore mountains and hills, this could be one of the major scene of the place in the next years. A going up staircases built in the large stone beneath the falls was once to be the primary path of the people living in the nearby villages.

VIGAN CITY NOW A NEW WONDER CITIES OF THE WORLD

“We are living the dream!”

VIGAN CITY is declared as the new New 7 Wonder Cities of the World with more an estimated of more than 12 million votes.

Joining with Vigan City of the province of Ilocos Sur of the Philippines when declared last December 8, 2014 in the prestigious title are the cities of Beirut, Lebanon; Doha, Qatar; Durban, South Africa; Havana, Cuba; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and La Paz, Bolivia at around 3:00 in the Philippine time.

Vigan City Mayor Eva Marie Singson Medina in a press statement said the following words.

“15 years after Vigan’s inscription in the UNESCO LIST OF WORLD HERITAGE
SITES and MONUMENTS IN DECEMBER 1999, she has been declared as the New
WONDER CITY OF THE WORLD on the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mother Mary.”

“We have been blessed with another distinct stature.”

“This is inspiring!” Mayor Singson said. “It is a tribute to a people who has committed to achieve development and make wonderful things happen in their lives and their communities even radiating beyond boundaries.”

In the said statement, Mayor Medina thank God for according Vigan and the entire Philippines the global recognition.

Showcasing the yearly Electrical Float Parade of 22 municipalities of 2nd District of Ilocos Sur including the special participation of Vigan City’s New Wonder City Float and Host Float of Candon City. This year’s celebration is as bright as the stars in the sky and kick-start for Christmas season.

Search For Model OFW Family Award 2014

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration- Regional Welfare Office 1 (OWWA-RWO1) has conducted its Regional Screening and Selection for the 2014 Model OFW Family of the Year Award (MOFYA) at the OWWA Conference Room.

MOFYA is an annual event of OWWA recognizing the exemplary and notable accomplishments of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their families in terms of family solidarity, education, finances and community involvement. MOFYA is now on its 10th year of paying tribute to the success stories of OFWs who sacrificed to live away from their families and were able to surmount the social costs linked with migration.

Each region shall have two MOFYA winners representing the land-based and the sea-based category. The regional winners from the 17 regions in Philippines will compete during the National Awarding, tentatively scheduled on December 4, 2014.
